Condor’s first crossing between the mainland and Channel Islands
Condor Ferries first service between the mainland and the Channel Islands set off from Weymouth with Captain Martin Dumont on the bridge. Condor soon became notable for running not just conventional passenger and car ferries, but also high-speed catamarans.
In the late 1990s it successfully bid to retain its licence to serve the Channel Islands and, in 2015, cut journey times further when it introduced Condor Liberation.

- Thomas Benjamin Frederick Davis was born in St Helier, and died, aged 75, in Durban, South Africa. He left behind a considerable fortune and a yacht once owned by the Kaiser.

The National Trust for Jersey is formed
- The National Trust for Jersey held its first formal meeting on 3 August 1936 with Samuel Falle, the Dean of Jersey, in the chair.
