Medals for a brave lifeboat crew
After a fruitless eight-hour search for a downed French military aircraft, the crew of the Jersey lifeboat was heading back to shore when it received a call from a stranded yacht. The Maurice Georges was trapped in the rocks of Demie De Pas, south of St Helier, with a crew of four aboard.
Despite already having been out for so long, the lifeboat motored to her aid and, at considerable risk to themselves, coxswain Thomas King and his crew rescued the stranded sailors and brought them safely back to shore.
King was awarded a gold medal and the rest of his crew received bronze medals for their service.
