A boy is killed on the Jersey Railway
A 15-year-old boy, whom the papers didn’t name, was killed on the Jersey Railway at Bel Royal. He’d been swimming in the sea, but forgotten to take his towel to the beach, and was knocked down and killed when crossing the line to retrieve it.
The boy’s body was dragged around 25 metres down the line and badly mutilated by the truck, attached to the front of the engine, which had struck him. His father, Captain GW Lefeuvre, was stationed on Jersey as a member of the North Lancashire Regiment.
Later the same week, a second accident on the railway saw an engine run into a passenger train. Fortunately, nobody was killed on that occasion, but four passengers were badly injured, and several others left shocked and shaken by the experience.
