Surrealist artist Marcel Moore commits suicide

Marcel Moore was born Suzanne Alberte Malherbe, in Nantes, in 1892. She moved to Jersey in 1937 with her partner, Claude Cahun and stayed on the island throughout the occupation, during which they distributed anti-Nazi propaganda. They managed to remain undetected until 1944, when they were tried and sentenced to death. Only the island’s liberation, saved their lives. Cahun died in 1954; Moore committed suicide, aged 79, on 19 February 1972.
