Foot and mouth arrives in Jersey
When foot and mouth was detected in Jersey cattle in March 1981, it was the first time the disease had been found in the British Isles for more than a decade, and the first confirmed case in Jersey since 1958. It had been found on farms in Brittany the previous month and apparently been carried to Jersey on the wind. All transportation of animals to and from Jersey was suspended.
